In the Islamic calendar, Shab e Barat is a significant night that is observed in the middle of Shaban (on the night in between the 14th and 15th of Shaban). It is named Nisf Shaban for this reason. This auspicious night lasts from dusk on the 14th of Shaban till sunrise on the 15th.
This day is observed in various ways and is known by different names in various nations. In South Asia, particularly the Subcontinent, Nisf Shaban is referred to as Shab e Barat or Shabe Barat, Lailatul Barat in Arabic, Nisfu Syaban (Malam Nisfu Syaban) in Indonesia and Malaysia, and Berat Kandili in Turkey.
Many Muslims consider Shab e Barat to be the night of forgiveness, and they spend the entire night in prayer begging Allah to bless them.
